Placing An Order Through API
The Rev API lets you place transcription, caption and subtitle orders from your own software. You start in a sandbox (test) environment, then ask Rev to turn on production orders. Before you start, read the API documentation to check the API fits your needs.

Get Started with the Rev API
- Create a Rev account if you don’t have one.
- Get sandbox keys. Go to the Rev API page and click Start Building, then complete the form. Rev emails you a user key and a client key for the sandbox environment.
- Build and test your integration in the sandbox. Follow the Quick Start guide. Sandbox orders aren’t processed or charged.

Set up a payment method for API orders. Your account needs one of these:
- a paid subscription (Essentials or higher);
- a prepaid account balance;
- an invoiced billing account (contact Sales).
Saved credit cards can’t be used for API orders. AI orders use your subscription minutes. Human-service orders draw from your prepaid balance or are invoiced.
- Ask for production access. Email apisupport@rev.com and say your sandbox integration is complete. Once Rev activates your account, the keys you already have work for both sandbox and production orders.
If Production Orders Fail
If a production order returns error 30010 (“The account balance has been reached…”), your account doesn’t yet have a payment method that covers API orders. Add a prepaid balance or a subscription (see step 4), or contact apisupport@rev.com.
