JW Player Integration

Rev’s JW Player integration lets you order English captions and global subtitles for videos in your JW Player account. Rev can pull every new or updated video automatically, or only the videos you tag. About once an hour, Rev checks your JW Player account, places the orders, and delivers the finished captions or subtitles back to the video in JW Player. Linked accounts are available to everyone on your Rev account.

This integration needs a JW Player v1 API Key and Secret. Newer JW Player accounts only issue v2 credentials. If you don’t see a v1 Key and Secret in JW Player, contact JW Player support to request them, or email support@rev.com.

Connect JW Player and Rev Accounts

Connecting takes a few minutes. You’ll need access to your JW Player account’s API credentials. You can link one JW Player account.

Ensure your Rev account has a payment source

You need a payment source on your Rev account before the integration can place orders. You can add one in either of these ways:

Add a credit card on the Account Billing Settings page.
Apply for invoicing to be billed monthly at the end of the month.

If a payment fails, Rev turns off Auto Pull Mode for your JW Player account until the payment is resolved.

Add a New Linked Account on Rev.com

On your Rev Account Settings page, scroll down to Integration Settings and click Link New Account.
Under Type, select JWPlatform.
Keep this window open. You’ll paste your JW Player credentials into it in the next steps.

Input JW Player Credentials

Log in to JW Player and open the API Keys page from the menu at the top of the screen.
Under JW Platform API Credentials, find the property you want to connect and click Show Credentials.
Copy the Key and Secret.
In Rev’s Link New Account window, enter the JW Player property name in Property (for example, Default). Then paste the Key into API Key and the Secret into API Secret.

Choose an Auto Pull Mode

In Auto Pull Mode, choose how Rev picks up your videos. You can change this later.

Pull all videos: Rev orders English captions for every video you add or update in JW Player, with no tags needed. To also order subtitles for every video, select the languages in Subtitles. Every pulled video is a paid order, so choose this only if you want all of your videos captioned.
Pull only videos tagged with ‘rev’: Rev only orders captions or subtitles for videos you tag. Leave Subtitles blank and use tags instead (see Place Orders With Tags).

Click Link. Your JW Player account is now connected.

Place Orders With Tags

If you chose Pull only videos tagged with ‘rev’, add Rev tags to your videos in JW Player to order captions or subtitles. Rev orders English captions for videos tagged rev-en, and a subtitle order for each language tag.

Select your videos

In JW Player, go to your videos list, select the videos you want to send to Rev, and click Tag.

In the Add tags window, type a tag in Add a Tag, click Add, then click Save Tags. See JW Player Tags for the full list. A subtitle order automatically includes an English caption order, so you don’t need to add rev-en when you add a subtitle tag.

Rev checks your JW Player account for new videos about once an hour. When Rev places the order, it updates the tags: rev-en changes to rev-placed, and a subtitle tag such as rev-fr changes to rev-fr-placed. A subtitle tag also adds rev-placed for the English captions included with it.

For Rush turnaround, add the rev-rush tag at the same time as your other Rev tags. Rush applies to English captions only, not subtitles.

Rev places only one order per video and language. To order again, for example after a canceled order, add the rev-redo tag along with the language tag. Rev removes the rev-redo tag after it places the new order. If an order was canceled for poor audio or very difficult content, we don’t recommend reordering, because the same issues will affect the new captions.

Receive your captions and/or subtitles

When an order is complete, Rev adds the captions or subtitles to the video in JW Player and changes the tag to -completed. For example, rev-placed becomes rev-completed, and rev-es-la-placed becomes rev-es-la-completed. You can also view and edit the files in your Rev account.

Troubleshooting JW Player Orders

“Invalid credentials” when linking: Rev needs a JW Player v1 API Key and Secret. Newer JW Player accounts only issue v2 credentials, so contact JW Player support to request v1 credentials.
Orders stopped coming in: Check that Auto Pull Mode is still turned on in Integration Settings. Rev turns it off when a payment fails. Turning it back on requires your API Secret.
A tagged video wasn’t ordered: Check the tag spelling against JW Player Tags. If Rev has already processed the video in that language, add rev-redo.
Too many videos are being ordered: Pull all videos orders captions for every new or updated video. Switch to Pull only videos tagged with ‘rev’ to choose which videos are ordered.
