Panopto and Rev customers are now able to place Rev caption orders from within Panopto. Completed caption files will be automatically pushed back to the appropriate video in Panopto.
To get started, you'll need to connect your Panopto account to a Rev account.
Create a Rev account
Create a Rev.com account by visiting https://www.rev.com/account/auth/register If you already have a Rev.com account, proceed to the next step.
Ensure your Rev account has a payment source
To place orders, you'll have to do one of the following:
- Load some pre-pay credit onto your Rev account. Go to your account Billing Settings and click Add More next to the Prepay Balance section.
- Become an invoice customer. You'll receive a bill at the end of the month and have 30 days to pay. Fill out this form: http://rev.com/
Get your Rev API User Key
You can generate your API user key from your Settings page. If you have never generated a key before, click Generate. Save your API Key somewhere safe; you will only be able to see it once. If you lose it, you’ll need to generate a new one by clicking Regenerate. This will invalidate your old API Key.
Link your Rev.com and Panopto accounts
Login to Panopto with your Admin account.
Go to System -> Caption & Translation Services.
At the top, you will see a Caption & Translation Services description. Below it, click on New.
Select Rev from the list as your caption provider.
For Service Name, enter your preferred name for Rev - e.g., “School of Business Captions”
For Private Key, enter the Rev API key you received previously.
Check Enable this provider.
Placing an Order
Assigning Permission to Submit Captions
After enabling any of the caption services, there is an additional option to allow any user to request this service level. If this box is checked, any creator or videographer account can request captions for their recording.
If you choose to restrict access to certain users, leave the above box un-checked -> go to Users -> select a user -> Info tab -> scroll down to System Roles and check the box for Caption requester. Then click Update Roles to save.
How to Request Captions Per Session
To submit a caption job, click the settings icon on the top bar of any session.
Enabling Automatic Caption Requests Per Folder
If enabled, this will automatically caption any new recordings that are added to the Folder. It will not go back and request captions for sessions already in that folder. Browse to the folder you wish to set up automatic captions for and click the Settings icon on the top right-hand side.
Monitoring Caption Requests
You can monitor captions at a session or site level. To monitor the captions for a specific session browse to that session and click the Settings icon. Then click the Captions tab.
