Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security on your account on top of a username and password. By turning on 2FA, your account will be protected against people pretending to be you. Rev ensures that the person logging into your account is actually you by asking for a 6-digit authentication code, which is generated in an authenticator app.
If you don't have access to the app at any point, we can also send your code to your backup method, which for now is your Rev account email.
To get started, visit your 2FA settings page and click the red Get Started button.
You will be asked to download either Google Authenticator or Authy to your phone or tablet. The app allows you to get one-time use codes to use when you log in so we know it's you. This works even when your phone is offline.
Once you've downloaded the authenticator app, open it on your device and scan the QR code to add rev.com to the app. After you've scanned the QR code, click Next.
You will be prompted to enter the 6-digit code that is displayed in the app. Keep in mind that these codes are time-dependent and will regenerate every 30 seconds in the app. If the time is almost up for the current code displayed, you might want to wait for the clock to restart with a new code before entering it.
Once you enter the code, click Verify, and your two-factor authentication will be complete! You'll be redirected to the settings page which will show verification of this.
If you want to turn 2FA off, you can deselect the box next to the the activation date on your 2FA settings page.
We do not offer SMS/Text authentication. SMS/Text is the least secure form of authentication. Since SMS authentication is linked to a phone number, they are susceptible to phone number porting attacks, which effectively take over a phone number and associated two-factor authentication codes.
