Eligibility
Age
Per Rev's service agreement, all freelancers must be at least 18 years of age. We are unable to make any exceptions to this requirement.
Accepted Locations
Rev accepts Transcription and Caption freelancers from the following countries:
- Australia
- Canada
- Ireland
- Mexico
- Netherlands
- New Zealand
- South Africa
- United Kingdom
- **The United States
- ** Due to regulation changes, this excludes the state of California
You must be physically located in an approved area, and you must have official identification from an approved location in order to freelance with Rev. If you are located outside of the listed countries, we are not currently able to accept your application.
Rev Support is not able to answer questions about the above list or provide any additional information on why specific countries might not be on this list.
Foreign Language Subtitling
If you are applying for foreign language subtitling, this list may not apply to you. You can apply for subtitling here: https://www.rev.com/freelancers/subtitles
If you cannot select your preferred language on the application, it's because we're not activating agents for that language currently. Feel free to check back periodically.
How To Apply
Once you have determined your eligibility, to apply to work as a freelance transcriptionist, captioner, or subtitler, please visit our website at https://www.rev.com/freelancers.
- There may be a quick quiz to demonstrate your English language and grammar skills.
- You may be required to submit a transcription or caption sample, or a video, which will be reviewed to ensure it meets customer quality expectations.
- If your application gets approved, you'll be able to register and start earning right after the approval.
*Note: There are different versions of the applications. If your application experience is slightly different from what is mentioned above, that's okay.
When accessing the website provided to apply, you will note extensive information is provided regarding transcription, captioning, and translation subtitles. Please review these to determine which service line you wish to apply for. There is also a section present for frequently asked questions.
Once You've Applied
Rev activates new freelancers based on the projects available in the marketplace and the number of prospective freelancers who apply. Because there is consistent interest from freelancers globally, not everyone who applies will be selected to move forward.
We’ll review your information, and if approved you will receive an email inviting you to complete your account registration. This process can be lengthy, based on the criteria noted above. Your application will be retained for six months, and you may be approved at any time during that period. If your application is declined during that period, you will be notified.

What Previous Experience is Required?
Transcription: Strong English skills
Captioning: Strong English skills
Translation: Strong English skills, strong skills in the target language, and previous translation experience.
