When it comes to speech-to-text solutions, one size does not fit all. Adjusting your order preferences allows you to customize different aspects of your order, from formatting to delivery.
You can access your order preferences by clicking on your name in the top right corner of your account and then selecting Account Settings.
Once in your account settings, select File Preferences from the top menu. You can then click on to the right of any sub-menus to edit that section's settings.
Global Settings
Under global settings you can adjust:
- Privacy Mode - How your name is displayed to the people who work on your human-generated orders.
- CC Email - Include another email address in order notification emails.
- English Language Type - Select between US and UK English spelling.
Under Transcription settings, you can select your preferred transcript format and file format which will be the default selection when you download your transcript.
You can enable individual add-ons to be toggled on by default in the checkout menu for services you commonly order. The add-ons can still be disabled during checkout but will be enabled by default.
Additional Settings that can be enabled include:
- Explicit language filter - choose whether to filter explicit language and whether the word should be removed or replaced with an asterisk or dashes.
- Shorten turnaround time up to 2x faster - choose whether files over 30 minutes long are split into smaller segments before being worked on and then stitched back together. This method allows multiple people to work on your file at once for a faster turnaround time but may result in inconsistent speaker names.
- Use informal spelling - based on speaker pronunciation, choose whether words like going to vs gonna are captured as spoken or corrected.
Under caption settings, you can select the default file format your downloads will be set to. You can also adjust the following settings for your downloaded files:
- Preferred Speaker Prefix - How speaker names are displayed
- Atmospherics - How they appear or if they are removed
- Offset start time - adjust the start time of your downloaded files
- Informal Spelling - based on speaker pronunciation, choose whether words like going to vs gonna are captured as spoken or corrected.
- Explicit language filter - choose whether to filter explicit language and whether the word should be removed or replaced with an asterisk or dashes.
If you generally order premium captions you can enable the add-on to be on by default. This means your order will automatically have premium captions toggled on when placing a new order, but you can still disable them at checkout.
Burned-In Caption Styling
If you added burned-in captions to your order you can adjust their appearance here.
The default settings for Rev’s open captions and subtitles are Noto Sans. The font will be white with 50% opacity black wrapped background, and the size will be determined by the dimensions of your video.
Two sections of your burned-in captions can be adjusted, the Text and the Background.
Text Options
Font types available include:
- Arial
- Noto Sans

- Open Sans
- Poppins
- Roboto
- Source Sans Pro

Note for Subtitle Orders: Not all listed fonts are available in every language.
Font size can be adjusted from 8 to 30 and Bold and Italics can be enabled/disabled.
You can select between white, black, or yellow text, or enter a hex value for custom colors.
The position of your captions can be adjusted horizontally (left, center, right) and vertically (top, center, bottom).
Background Options
Choose whether to have a background and if it should outline the text or wrap it like a box.
You can adjust the color of the background by selecting one of the default colors or entering a hex value for custom colors.
Under Global Subtitles, you can pause your order to review the English captions before translation begins. After applying the Verify English captions before sending to translators setting orders placed while the setting is enabled will pause for up to 24 hours after the English captions for that order have been created, allowing you time to review and edit the captions before the translator begins working in the subtitles. It's important to note that the translator will still use your audio/video file as a source of truth and the English captions only as a reference.
If you ordered burned-in subtitles, you can adjust the default appearance settings under Captions settings.
AI Transcription
Under AI Transcription settings you can change your default language and whether your file should be verbatim or non-verbatim. You can also enable and disable auto AI transcription for uploaded files. If you have auto AI transcription enabled, the files you upload will follow your selected default language and verbatim settings.
