How to add captions to Facebook videos

Adding captions to your Facebook videos is a breeze with Rev! Just follow this workflow.

Step 1: Order the correct format

Facebook accepts only the SubRip format (.srt) If you have previously ordered captions from Rev in a different format, we can convert them for you at no additional charge.

Step 2: Rename File

Facebook requires a specific naming convention for caption files for their videos. Your .srt file should have the following naming convention: filename.[language code]_[country code].srt. For English and the U.S. , the language code is en and the country code is US. So if your .srt file is named videocaptions, your file should be named videocaptions.en_US.srt

Step 3: Add your captions to your video

Once you’ve clicked post to post a new video, click edit this video. Then click choose file to select your .SubRip (.srt) file from your computer and click save.

For an already posted video, click on the video to expand it, click edit this video or click options and select edit this video. Then click choose file to select your .SubRip (.srt) file from your computer and click save.

Step 4: See your captions

Click the CC icon at the bottom of the video player to turn captions on or off.
