Transcription

Our Transcription service involves human transcribers who carefully work on each transcript. This service is designed to provide you with a written document that accurately captures all the English dialogue spoken in an audio or video file.

We offer a 99% accuracy guarantee for files with clear audio and once your order is complete, you will be able to download it in any of the following formats:

  • .docx
  • .pdf
  • .txt

Captions

Captions display a program's audio content as text on-screen. They help viewers understand auditory information when the sound is muted, unavailable, inaudible, or if the viewer is deaf or hard of hearing.

Captions come in two forms, closed captions and open captions. Closed captions can be turned on or off by the viewer on their media device. Open captions always display on screens since they're burning directly onto the video track.

The end product for captions is what is known as a sidecar file. It's a versatile, text-based file that you can then add to your video by uploading the caption file to the online platform where your video is hosted or burned into the video itself. This is the industry standard for closed captions. When you order captions with Rev, all of our caption formats are included for free.

Rev now offers burned-in captions (delivered as an MP4 video file) for an additional $0.30 per video minute. You may add this feature at checkout or add burned-in captions to a previous order.

Caption files are delivered in many formats such as SRT for online videos or SCC for broadcast television.

What if my video is in a language other than English?

At this time we only offer captioning for English source videos, though we may add other languages in the future. We do not translate non-English speech into English. You can learn more about how we treat non-English language in a video here

Subtitles

Global Subtitles are intended for viewers who can hear what is being said in a video but cannot understand the language being spoken.

Our global subtitle service takes an English source video and creates subtitles in another language, such as Spanish, Chinese, or Portuguese. You can view the full list of languages we offer here. In other words, a subtitle order is English > Other Language.

Automatic Transcription

Our Automated Transcription is a machine-generated transcript created with our industry-leading speech recognition technology.

The accuracy of our speech algorithm is directly related to the quality of the audio file input. Background noise, volume differences between speakers, accents, etc. will all bring down the output quality quickly.

An Automated Transcript should be considered a first-pass draft and works best with very clear audio. An additional benefit of Automated Transcription is that you can download your file in .srt and .vtt caption formats.

Placing an automatic transcription order instead of a human transcription order means your order is more affordable and delivered within minutes, though the quality is not as high and there are no quality guarantees.
